Sustainability of Ceramics

Ceramics have been used for centuries due to their durability, versatility, and aesthetic appeal. But have you ever stopped to consider the sustainability of ceramics? The folks over at Redfin recently published this article on the subject, compiling the thoughts and ideas of potters all across the American South.
Matchstick Goods' Director Dan Fowler was quoted in the article, saying:
“Humans have been making pots for thousands of years. Even now, with our improved tools and generations of learning, ceramics are still just the process of molding mud into beautiful things, and rendering them permanent with heat. The process is slow and deliberate; the only other input besides clay and heat is the artist and their craft. Owning handmade ceramics means participating in one of civilization's most ancient, renewable, and simple traditions.”
